TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial administration has asked the Assessment and Application of Technology Agency (BPPT) to start implementing a weather modification project between July 10-15 in a bid to reduce air pollution.
The agency’s Weather Modification Technology Center (BBTMC) head, Tri Handoko Seto, said that the two parties had agreed on the implementation of the project.
“We have set the date between 10-15 July as they [Jakarta] requested,” Seto told Tempo, Friday, July 5.

Seto explained the city administration initially invited BPPT to canvass the possibilities to alter the weather in the capital and its technical implementation as well.
BBTMC, he added, proposed three scenarios of weather modification, and Jakarta agreed to implement it before the beginning of school days on July 15.

However, BPPT stopped short of detailing the exact date, pending an official letter from the Jakarta administration. “We are ready, but we’re waiting for the administration before starting it, the budget mechanism, etc.,” Seto concluded.
